Construction is complete on Herndon Square Phase II, a $57 million, six-story building on Northside Drive on Atlanta's Westside. Its 201 apartments mix 170 income-restricted units, aimed at households earning 30% to 80% of area median income, with 31 market-rate homes.

Eighty of the affordable units carry project-based vouchers through Atlanta Housing's Homeflex program. The building is part of the larger Legacy at Herndon Square redevelopment of the former University Homes public housing site, developed by Atlanta Housing with Pennrose and Hunt and designed by Thriven Design.

Why it matters

It replaces a piece of Atlanta's demolished public housing with mixed-income units at a moment when the city is short thousands of affordable homes, and it keeps deep affordability on land close to downtown.
